Emergency Response Officer

The Dutch government obligates companies to organize an Emergency Response Team (ERT). The number of Emergency Response Officers (EROs) depends on the specific risks within the company. To act accurately, quickly and effectively during an incident, trained EROs are essential.This ERO Basic Training takes two full days and follows the official guidelines of the NIBHV (Dutch Institute for Emergency Response).

    The ERO Basic Training consists of two full training days:

    Day 1 First Aid

    • General rules of First Aid
    • Bruises and sprains
    • External wounds
    • Eye injuries
    • Broken bones, dislocation and spinal injury
    • Burns
    • Choking
    • CPR
    • Using an AED
    • Recognizing conditions such as stroke, heart attack and diabetes

    Day 2 – Fire Fighting & Evacuation

    • What is fire and understanding its dangers
    • How to safely approach a fire
    • Different types of extinguishers
    • Practical fire extinguishing
    • Human behavior during emergencies
    • Communication and evacuation procedures

    Results

    After completing the ERO Basic Training you will be able to:

    • Recognize and treat different types of injuries
    • Perform CPR and use an AED
    • Recognize and extinguish a starting fire
    • Understand the differences between extinguishers
    • Apply the basic principles of evacuation
    • Communicate effectively during incidents

    Exam

    At the end of each training day, you will take a multiple-choice exam. In addition, your practical performance during the course will be assessed. If you successfully complete both days and exams, you will receive the official Emergency Response Officer Certificate and a Safety Pass from the NIBHV. The certificate is valid for one year. To keep your knowledge up to date, you must attend an annual refresher training.

    Number of participants

    The maximum group size is ten participants. Lohuis Medical focuses on small groups as one of our core strengths. Smaller groups ensure more individual attention, greater interaction with the instructor, and higher learning efficiency.

    In-company training

    Do you prefer to organize the ERO Basic Training at your own company? That is no problem. Our instructor will come to your location. You provide the coffee and tea, and we take care of the rest. With six or more participants, it can already be more efficient and cost-effective to choose an in-company training.

    Emergency Response Officer (ERO) Basic Training

    Do you want to learn how to provide first aid in the most common workplace incidents, but also want to know how much time you need to invest? At Lohuis Medical we understand that your time is valuable. That is why we have designed our Emergency Response Officer (ERO) Basic Training to be as practical and efficient as possible. During this two-day training you will learn exactly how to act in case of injuries, medical emergencies and fire-related incidents. After completion, you will be able to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies in the workplace.

    Your time investment

    The ERO Basic Training takes two full days and is conducted by our experienced NIBHV-certified instructors. Theory and practice alternate continuously, ensuring that you not only gain knowledge but also immediately apply it in realistic scenarios. Special attention is given to first aid, CPR, the use of AEDs, and fire safety including extinguishing techniques and evacuation procedures.

    More knowledge and confidence

    After completing this training you will be able to:

    • Perform CPR and use an AED effectively
    • Recognize and extinguish starting fires safely
    • Understand the differences between fire extinguishers
    • Apply the basic principles of evacuation
    • Communicate effectively during emergencies

    Exam and certification

    At the end of each training day, you will complete a multiple-choice exam. In addition, your performance during practical sessions will be evaluated. After successfully completing both days and exams, you will receive the official Emergency Response Officer Certificate and Safety Pass from the NIBHV. The certificate is valid for one year. To keep your skills and knowledge up to date, an annual refresher course is required.

    Dagindeling

    The Emergency Response Officer (ERO) Basic Training consists of two full training days in which theory and practice alternate.Each day starts with a short theoretical introduction, after which you will immediately put the knowledge into practice through realistic scenarios. You will practice CPR and the use of an AED, treating wounds and injuries, and acting in case of medical emergencies such as stroke or heart attack. On the second day, the focus is on fire safety and evacuation: you will learn how to recognize and approach a fire, use different types of extinguishers, and guide people to safety. The combination of theory and hands-on exercises ensures that the training remains dynamic and effective. At the end of each day you will complete a short multiple-choice exam, and your practical skills will be assessed by the instructor. After successfully completing both days, you will receive the official NIBHV Emergency Response Officer Certificate.

    What you will learn

    During the Emergency Response Officer (ERO) Basic Training you will learn how to act responsibly and effectively in case of workplace incidents, medical emergencies and fire-related situations. The training is practical and interactive, ensuring that after completion you can respond with confidence and up-to-date knowledge. Together with the instructor and other participants you will practice realistic scenarios, so you know exactly what to do when every second counts.

    You will learn, among other things, how to:

    • Apply the general principles of First Aid
    • Assess vital functions of a casualty
    • Perform CPR and use an AED
    • Treat wounds, bruises, fractures and dislocations
    • Recognize and act in case of medical conditions such as stroke, heart attack or diabetes
    • Understand fire hazards and use different types of extinguishers
    • Extinguish a starting fire safely and effectively
    • Guide and support safe evacuation during incidents
    • Communicate clearly during emergencies

    Good to know: At the end of the training your knowledge and practical skills will be assessed. When both theory and practice are completed successfully, you will receive the official Emergency Response Officer Certificate from NIBHV, proving your competence as an Emergency Response Officer.
